Football Prediction Competition
As a bit of fun, and to raise money for charity, we are again running a Football Prediction Competition this coming season. Even if you don’t know too much about football, you can still end up beating colleagues or friends who think they do!
All you’ll need is to complete an entry form (which can be found at Hampden House Reception, the Picnic Hamper or you can email hello@jennings.co.uk and we can send one over to you) and you can be in with a chance of winning some cash!
Here’s how it works…
The Competition entry form has the names of all the Premiership teams on it, with a number indicating what position they finished in last season (a ‘P’ means they were promoted from the Championship). All you have to do is predict where you think they will finish at the end of next season by putting a number in the space provided. So, if you think Man City will be champions again, you put a ‘1’ next to them, and if you think Liverpool will be second again, a ‘2’ next to them, and so on all the way down to 20.
At the end of the season, all of the entries will be matched against the actual finishing positions of the teams, and you’ll get ‘penalty’ points for how far out your predictions are. Scores are calculated by adding the ‘squares’ of the difference (between predicted & actual finishing positions) for each team in the League. In other words, Liverpool predicted to finish 5th, and actually finish 1st you would score (5 – 1)2 = 16 points. After totalling up all of the penalty points, the entry with the least points is the winner. In case of a tie, the prize money will be shared equally between those with the winning score.
Although the season kicks off on the 9th August this year, the deadline for entries will be Friday 30th August to allow extra time for people to enter. Once your entry is in and the deadline has been passed, you won’t be able to alter your predictions – unlike, for example, the Fantasy Premier League. However, there will be regular updates throughout the season, so you’ll be able to see how well (or otherwise) your predictions are performing.
This season we will be raising funds for Monument Community Trust (MCT) in it’s 10th year of supporting local charitable causes. We have decided to keep with the entry fee to £3 – which means more money for the local charities, but also some additional prizes for those of us that struggle to get into the top 3. Please feel free to mention it to family, friends and colleagues too, as you can put in as many entries as you like. Half of the total entry money collected will be shared out in prize money and the other half will go to MCT.
Completed entry forms should be returned to Hampden House Reception with the £3 entry fee, or you can email it across to louise@jennings.co.uk by 30th August 2018. All payments details are on the entry form.
Good luck!
